Prescribed warfarin? Follow these diet tips

What is warfarin?

Warfarin belongs to a class of medications known as anticoagulograms that reduce the ability of blood to form blood clots in blood vessels. You must take warfarin correctly, with all the necessary precautions, strictly following the instructions and advice of the doctor.

You must understand why you are taking this medicine and follow all the doctor’s recommendations.

The body works normally if the blood circulates freely in the vessels. Blood clots that interfere with its normal flow are called trombs. Warfarin slows the formation of blood clots. Blood clots can form anywhere in the body. During the normal functioning of the blood coagulation system, only when a blood vessel is damaged, a small blood clot is formed. Nevertheless, if blood clots form in the bloodstream spontaneously, it means that something is broken in the coagulation system. The formation of blood clots is called thrombosis or thromboembolism.

Who needs to take warfarin?

They are patients who need treatment and prevention of thrombosis and embolism of blood vessels, including:

– heart valve disease;

– prosthetic heart valves or blood vessels;

– acute venous thrombosis (phlebothrombosis) and pulmonary embolism (in combination with heparin);
